Sorya

[So-rya]

Scullion / Maid / Warrior Unknown

A commoner of Vimayapura descent who bridges the ancient stone world of her ancestors and the wooden world of the Siamese through the edge of a blade.

She moves with the timid grace of a field girl, yet the steel in her posture betrays the warrior beneath. In a world that demands flowery court speech she does not possess, she has chosen to speak through the “Som Tum Style”—a brutal, rhythmic two-sword technique where her left hand crushes like a pestle and her right hand slices like a knife.

Meaning “Sun” or “Solar,” her name evokes the celestial alignments of the great temples.

Character Notes

Pretty and clever but uneducated, she reflects commoner status and possesses hidden strength. Her journey takes her from a “timid apprentice” to a warrior who chooses truth over a comfortable lie. Sorya’s mastery of the Daab San (short swords) is less about martial prowess and more about an existential search for truth. She remains perpetually caught between her mentor, Mŭu Hrìng, who serves as her voice and shield, and the unwanted shadow of Luang Sorasakdidecha, whose high-born obsession threatens to extinguish her light. Her journey is defined by the rejection of comfortable lies in favor of a sharp, honest reality.

Spoiler: Character Fate During the tragic Siege of [Meuang Sema], Sorya falls in a final act of heroism. Her death is graced by a "mercy lie" from [Mŭu Hrìng], who whispers that the Prince has arrived and has always loved her. She passes into the stone world believing her devotion was mirrored, a final solar eclipse before the dark.
